Combating Insomnia

Dreaded Insomnia!

Let me start by saying that insomnia is without a doubt one of the most difficult conditions to endure!

Reasons for insomnia may include:

  • Stress (specific or general)

  • Changes to your routine

  • Short-term or chronic pain

  • Awareness that you are awake will increase sleep evasion!

One of the problems with missing a nights sleep is that, very often the next day you will waste hours trying to catch up on sleep that you have missed out on, but to no avail! You spend the day feeling drained and unenergetic.  Your brain will feel foggy and concentration on even the simplest of tasks becomes virtually impossible.  The longer this continues, the greater the chances that it will effect your mental health and you will begin to suffer from depression, anxiety and memory loss.  Studies have shown that lack of sleep is a public health epidemic – lack of sleep has caused road traffic accidents, disasters in the work place as well as medical and occupational errors!

Solutions

Okay, so there is prescription medication, which is sometimes necessary.  However not everyone wants to rely on this medication as it can cause nightmares and although it does induce sleep, you may find that you have a restless sleep. When you awake the following morning you still may not feel refreshed and invigorated, rather on the contrary you feel just as sluggish and the effects of the drugs linger causing you to feel zoned out…there is also the issue that sleeping pills can be addictive and you may fear becoming dependent on them!

How Calm Massage Therapy Works…

Within Calm Salon I have created an oasis of tranquility.  With subtle lighting, aromatic ambience and soft background music, my clients immediately get a sense of Calm from the moment they walk through the door.  As the massage therapist, I am also completely relaxed and able to carry out massage treatments with a natural flow, which automatically puts my clients at ease.  From the instant my clients lie down on the massage couch, they easily let go of all the troubles that surrounded them on the outside world and as the treatment progresses both client and therapist get lost in their own relaxed world, while enjoying an easy silence.  Calm Massage Treatments induce the release of serotonin, which is the bodies natural production of anti-pain chemicals and this in turn increases relaxation which will restore your sleep pattern. Calm Massage Treatments are very effective at increasing deep sleep!

As well as promoting sleep, which is where the restorative process occurs, a Calm Massage Treatment will have other benefits also.  Touch Research Institution has found patients suffering from arthritis have reported improved grip strength and a greater range of motion after as little as one month of massage therapy.  Calm massage Therapy has also successfully improved posture, blood pressure, muscle tension, circulation, immune health, reduction of headaches and reduction of stress.

As you can see the natural treatment for insomnia comes with added reasons to make Calm Massage Therapy a regular part of living a healthier life and with massage treatments costing as little as £35 you should contact us to book your treatment and don’t lose out on another nights sleep!

A step-by-step guide for you to try at home…

  1. Have a nice cup of Herbal Tea

  2. Run a nice warm bath with and have a good long soak!

  3. After your bath, dress in your most comfy P.J.’s

  4. Be sure to use the bathroom before going to bed.

  5. Spray your pillow generously with a natural sleep inducing pillow mist

  6. After turning off the light get into your comfortable bed, making sure that the clock is not visible (watching the clock will keep you awake!) and the room should be completely silent!

  7. Find a comfortable position and then lie perfectly still, counting as you take 50 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth (remember to stay still and do not change position during those 50 deep breaths)!

  8. Repeat step 7 as necessary (although I doubt you will need to repeat it as you will already be asleep)!

I sincerely hope that you will take my advice on board and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Lots of Love

Ciara
